Cavitation
Product Code : JA-FMAHLE-10002
The Cavitation unit (SKU JA-FMAHLE-10002), supplied by JaincoLab, shows how cavitation forms when the pressure of flowing water falls to its vapour pressure. Water passes through a transparent Venturi nozzle that narrows from 18 mm to a 3.5 mm throat, so the vapour bubbles can be seen, and a manometer shows the pressure curve at three measuring points. This cavitation demonstration unit sets the flow with ball valves and a pressure reducing valve and measures it with a rotameter.
Specifications
The cavitation unit is specified by a transparent Venturi nozzle of 18 mm inlet and outlet with a 3.5 mm throat, 10.5° contraction and 4° enlargement, a pressure reducing valve of 0.5 to 2 bar and measuring ranges for temperature, pressure and flow as tabled.

Experiments with the cavitation unit
The unit is used to make cavitation visible in the throat of a Venturi nozzle and to relate its onset to the measured pressure, flow rate and water temperature.
- Investigating cavitation in a Venturi nozzle
- Pressure curve along the Venturi
- Onset of cavitation against flow rate and pressure
- Effect of water temperature on cavitation
