Cam Analysis Apparatus
Product Code : JA-FMAHLE-7332
The Cam Analysis Apparatus (SKU JA-FMAHLE-7332) is a motorised cam and follower test unit: a variable-speed motor drives a camshaft, and a dial gauge on the follower records lift against the angle of rotation. JaincoLab builds this cam analysis apparatus for theory of machines practicals in mechanical engineering colleges and polytechnics, where students plot displacement curves and study follower jump and bounce. Three cams and three followers are supplied with it.
Specifications
The camshaft runs in a double bearing and is driven by a variable-speed motor with a speed regulating arrangement; the cam mounts on the free end of the shaft, and the follower, guided in gunmetal bushes and loaded by a spring and adjustable weights, carries a dial gauge read against a co-axial protractor.

Experiments on the cam analysis apparatus
The cam analysis apparatus is used to compare the motion of different cam and follower pairs and to show how speed, spring compression and follower weight affect jump and bounce, which is a standard part of the cam dynamics work in theory of machines laboratories.
- Plotting follower displacement against angle of cam rotation for different cam and follower pairs
- Studying the effect of spring compression on follower bounce
- Studying the effect of follower weight on bounce
- Observing the jump phenomenon as cam speed and inertia forces change
- Repeating tests with different compression springs, follower weights and cam speeds
Scope of supply and ordering
The listing covers the motorised cam analysis apparatus with dial gauge, protractor, spring, follower weights, three cams and three followers. A stroboscope is optional and is quoted separately if required. Accessories, spares and quantities are confirmed on the quotation.
Minimum order quantity, lead time and packing are confirmed on each quotation for the number of units and the delivery destination. JaincoLab supplies single units and full theory of machines laboratories to engineering colleges, polytechnics and tender contractors.
