Spray Tower
Product Code : JA-FMAHLE-7322
The Spray Tower (SKU JA-FMAHLE-7322) is a liquid-liquid extraction set-up in which one liquid is sprayed as fine drops through a second liquid in a glass column. It operates in semi-batch mode, with a fine spray nozzle at the top and the liquid-liquid interface held by controlling the extract flow with a needle leveller on the rotameter. This spray tower extraction apparatus feeds both liquids from separate stainless steel tanks by compressed air, and meters them with rotameters.
Specifications
The spray tower is specified by a borosilicate glass column of about 750 mm height and 45 mm diameter, two 20 litre SS feed tanks, two 10 litre SS extract and raffinate tanks, a 0-2 kg/cm2 pressure regulator and Bourdon gauge and two rotameters, as tabled.

Experiments with the spray tower
The tower is used to study mass transfer between two immiscible liquids when one is dispersed as drops, measuring how much solute passes into the extract at different flow rates.
- Liquid-liquid extraction in a spray column
- Mass transfer coefficient at different flow rates
- Holding and controlling the liquid-liquid interface
- Semi-batch extraction practicals in chemical engineering
