Relative Density Apparatus

The Relative Density Apparatus (SKU JA-ST-9827) determines the maximum and minimum index density of cohesionless soils such as sands and gravels. From these two limits the relative density, or density index, of a soil is worked out as a percentage, showing how compact the soil is between its loosest and densest states. That value is used when judging compaction, bearing capacity and liquefaction potential of granular soils.
