Owen Bridge
Product Code : JA-SI-8076
The Owen Bridge (SKU JA-SI-8076) is an AC bridge for finding the value of an unknown inductance, housed in a teak wood case with all its working parts built in. A 1 kHz sine-wave source with an indicating lamp drives the bridge, a digital null detector shows the balance point, and 4 mm sockets on the circuit board let students make the connections before setting the resistance and capacitance dials.

Practical work
- Measuring an unknown self inductance with the Owen bridge balance
- Studying how the capacitance and resistance arms bring the bridge to a null
- AC bridge circuit analysis in engineering and physics laboratories
- Checking the result against a Maxwell or Hay bridge measurement on the same inductor
Scope of supply and ordering
The bridge comes in its teak case with the source and detector built in. Test inductors, leads, quantities and packing are confirmed on the quotation.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Owen Bridge used for?
Measuring the value of an unknown inductance.
Which capacitors can be varied?
C3 and C4, each on a decade dial in steps of 0.1 microfarad.
Does it need a separate detector?
No, a null detector with digital display is built in.
What is the value of R1?
R1 is fixed internally at 1000 ohm, while R2 and R3 are set on decade dials.
