The Friction Silk Cloth (product code JA-EE-7662) is a 300 x 300 mm square of silk for charging rods by friction. The silk friction cloth is the traditional partner for a glass rod: rubbing glass with silk leaves the rod with a positive charge, while an ebonite rod rubbed with a suitable cloth becomes negative, so having both lets students show that there are two kinds of charge. It is used in school and college electrostatics practicals with electroscopes and pith balls.
