Forced Vortex Flow

The Forced Vortex Flow apparatus (SKU JA-ELA-5513) is a fluid mechanics experiment made by JaincoLab for demonstrating rotational flow. A cylinder of water is rotated about its axis by a motor; once conditions are steady every particle moves with the same angular velocity, with no relative motion between particles, and the free surface takes up a parabolic profile. The streamlines are concentric circles, and total energy is constant along each streamline but changes from one streamline to the next.

Experiment procedure
- Fill the cylinder with water to about half its height
- Rotate it at a constant, fairly fast speed and measure the speed of rotation
- At steady state, read the surface profile with the Pitot-static tube along a radius, taking the elevation at r0 as datum
- Change the motor speed and repeat the readings for a second run

The apparatus is supplied ready for a single-phase 220 V supply with water connection and drain; quantity and packing are confirmed on the quotation.
