Shear Legs (SKU JA-ELA-5517) is a statics apparatus supplied by JaincoLab that extends the study of forces in one plane to three dimensions. Shear legs, two inclined struts held back by a stay, are often used to make temporary cranes. Here the double legs are mounted on rollers running on a round bar; the compression forces in the legs are read on integral spring balances, the feet are restrained by an adjustable tie chain, and the adjustable backstay carries its own spring balance. A weight hung from the apex loads the structure.
