The Automatic Tissue Processor (SKU JA-ELA-5486) listed here is the Physilab model, supplied by JaincoLab for histology and pathology teaching laboratories. It carries tissue specimens automatically through fixation, dehydration, clearing and paraffin infiltration, so that the tissue can be embedded and cut into sections for slide staining. Tissues are placed in stainless steel capsules held in wire-mesh baskets; a movable hood raises, transports and lowers the basket through a series of glass beakers of processing agents and finally two hot-paraffin baths.

Processing stages
The tissue is oscillated in each reagent in turn:
- Fixation, which stops enzyme activity and preserves the tissue
- Dehydration to remove the water
- Clearing in a cleansing agent
- Infiltration with paraffin so the tissue can be sectioned
