The Flow / Level Control Demonstration Unit (SKU JA-AM-6472) is an experimental unit for controlling level and flow individually and in cascade. Level is measured by a pressure sensor and flow by a rotameter with electrical output, an electromagnetic proportional valve acts as control valve, and ball valves with scales create disturbances. Two digital industrial controllers can be set as P, PI or PID and linked in cascade, with key signals at lab jacks. It is supplied by JaincoLab for control engineering and instrumentation laboratories.

The unit has a 15 litre stainless steel storage tank, a 3-stage 90 W pump of 83 L/min and 6 m head, a 0-100 mbar level pressure sensor, a 0-600 L/h rotameter with electrical output, a tank with overflow and scale and a large process schematic on the front panel.

Experiments with the flow and level control unit
Students run level and flow loops on their own and then in cascade, set P, PI and PID parameters and open the ball valves to test how each arrangement rejects disturbances.
