Frequently asked questions
Does bromobenzene give a precipitate with silver nitrate?
Not readily. The C-Br bond on the ring is strong, so unlike an alkyl bromide it does not give silver bromide on warming with alcoholic silver nitrate.
What is bromobenzene used to prepare?
Phenylmagnesium bromide, a Grignard reagent, by reaction with magnesium in dry ether.
