The Vane Shear Test Apparatus (SKU JA-ST-9809) measures the in-place shearing resistance of saturated cohesive deposits by turning a vane at the bottom of a bore hole. A torque applicator assembly on a base turns the rod string through a crank and a gear wheel marked in degrees; the torque passes through a cut torque ring whose deformation is read on a dial gauge and converted to kg-cm of torque with the calibration curve supplied.
