The Speedy Moisture Meter (SKU JA-ST-9835) gives a quick moisture content for soil, sand and other fine-grained material by the calcium carbide method. Water in the sample reacts with calcium carbide to form acetylene gas, and because the amount of gas is directly proportional to the water present, the gas pressure shown on the built-in gauge reads directly in percent moisture on a wet weight basis. A conversion formula gives the dry-weight moisture content.
