The Electromagnet (SKU JA-ELA-5316) is a U-shaped bar of soft iron with a coil wound on each arm. Its poles are 10 mm in diameter and the ends are ground flat so they make good magnetic contact with an iron armature. It works on one or more dry cells, so students can see the magnet switch on and off with the current and compare its lifting power as cells are added.
