When the air inside is heated and then allowed to cool with the cap closed, the pressure inside falls and the outside air crushes the can in front of the class. The collapsing can demonstration of atmospheric pressure
In the demonstration a little water is boiled in the can so that steam drives out the air, the screw cap is closed and the can is cooled; the steam condenses, the pressure inside drops and atmospheric pressure outside crushes the can, showing how large the force of the atmosphere is.
