Young Modulus Apparatus
Product Code : JA-FMDE-7859
The Young Modulus Apparatus (SKU JA-FMDE-7859) measures the small extension of a loaded wire against an unloaded comparison wire hanging beside it, so that students can calculate the Young's modulus of the wire material. This Young's modulus apparatus with vernier has a 0–30 mm scale read by a movable vernier to 0.1 mm, clamps and hooks for the two wires, a tension weight of about 1.3 kg and a ceiling clamp. JaincoLab manufactures it in India for senior school and college physics laboratories.
Specifications
The apparatus consists of a scale plate carrying a 0–30 mm scale and a movable vernier readable to 0.1 mm, each with a bar having clamping screws for the wires and hooks for the tension weight and loading masses, plus a tension weight of approximately 1.3 kg for the comparison wire and a ceiling clamp with two large wood screws.

Experiments with the Young's modulus apparatus with vernier
Two identical wires hang from the ceiling clamp: the comparison wire is kept taut by the tension weight while the test wire is loaded with slotted masses, and the vernier reads the extension of the test wire relative to the comparison wire, cancelling out sag of the support and temperature effects.
- Determining the Young's modulus of a wire by the comparison wire method
- Plotting load against extension to find the stress-strain relation
- Comparing the elastic behaviour of brass, copper and steel wires
- Senior secondary and B.Sc elasticity practicals
Scope of supply and ordering
Each unit comprises the scale plate with 0–30 mm scale, movable vernier, wire clamps and hooks, a tension weight of about 1.3 kg and a ceiling clamp with wood screws, as described above. Test wires, loading masses and quantities are confirmed on the quotation.
Minimum order quantity, lead time and packing are confirmed on each quotation according to the quantity and the delivery destination. JaincoLab supplies single sets for school laboratories, multiple sets for colleges and education projects, and export consignments to buyers in Africa, the Middle East and South and South-East Asia.
Frequently asked questions
How precisely does the apparatus read extension?
The movable vernier reads the 0–30 mm scale to 0.1 mm.
What is the tension weight for?
The tension weight of about 1.3 kg keeps the comparison wire taut, so extension is measured relative to it.
How is the apparatus fixed?
A ceiling clamp holds the upper ends of the wires and is fixed to an overhead beam or door frame with the two large wood screws supplied.
Are wires and masses included?
Test wires and loading masses are listed separately, including a Young Modulus Wire Set, and can be added to the quotation.
