Conductivity Star

The Conductivity Star (SKU JL-LE-10458, Cat. No. JSS-155/011) is a heat conductometer that compares how well five metals conduct heat: aluminium, brass, iron, stainless steel and copper. A little of the supplied wax is placed on each spoke, the central hub is heated over a Bunsen burner flame, and students watch the wax melt at different rates along the spokes.

Using the conductivity star
The demonstration runs in three steps:
- Place a small amount of the supplied wax on each metal spoke
- Heat the central hub over a Bunsen burner flame
- Compare how quickly the wax melts on each spoke to rank the metals
