Advanced Conduction Unit
Product Code : JA-ELA-5521
The Advanced Conduction Unit (SKU JA-ELA-5521) is a bench-top heat transfer unit supplied by JaincoLab for measuring the thermal conductivity of metals. A metal test bar is clamped between an electric heater and a Peltier element acting as the cooler, and the whole arrangement sits under an evacuated bell jar. With the air removed, convection losses can be neglected and all the heat supplied must flow along the test bar. The vacuum pump and the digital displays are built into the housing.

How the conductivity is found
The calculation follows Fourier's law of conduction:
- The heater power gives the heat flow along the bar
- The temperatures at the hot and cold ends give the temperature difference
- With the bar length and cross-section, these give the thermal conductivity
Scope of supply and ordering
The unit is supplied by JaincoLab as a bench-top assembly; the test bars included, quantity and packing are confirmed on the quotation.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the test bar under a bell jar?
The bell jar is evacuated, so convection losses can be neglected and all the heat flows through the bar.
What cools the cold end?
A Peltier element.
What is housed in the base unit?
The vacuum pump and the digital displays.
