Rod length is chosen by the height of the apparatus: 300 to 500 mm rods suit test-tube and funnel work at the bench, 600 mm is the usual general-purpose length, and 750 to 1000 mm rods carry tall burettes, condensers and multi-clamp distillation assemblies.
