Experiments with the metal leaf electroscope
It is used to show and compare static charge, for example:
- Detecting charge on a rubbed rod brought near the plate
- Charging by contact and by induction, then earthing through the 4 mm socket
- Comparing the size of charges from the leaf deflection on the scale
- Teaching the idea of like charges repelling, shown by the leaf moving away from the plate
