The Dipole Meter (SKU JA-CE-8025) is a physical chemistry instrument for measuring the dielectric constant of non-aqueous, non-polar solutions at different concentrations, from which the dipole moment of a polar solute such as nitrobenzene can be calculated. The main unit combines a frequency counter, a stabilised audio oscillator and the measuring circuitry. This dipole moment apparatus is used in M.Sc. and B.Sc. physical chemistry laboratories, and JaincoLab supplies it with a stainless steel dielectric cell and water-jacket attachment.

Experiments with the dipole meter
Students first standardise the cell with a liquid of known dielectric constant, then measure a series of dilute solutions of a polar compound in a non-polar solvent; plotting dielectric constant against concentration gives the data needed to calculate the dipole moment.
