Conductivity of Metal Apparatus
Product Code : JA-H-8004
The JaincoLab thermal conductivity of metals apparatus (SKU JA-H-8004) compares how quickly four metals conduct heat. Strips of copper, brass, steel and aluminium are mounted on a wooden ring and meet at the centre. When the centre is heated gently, heat travels out along each strip and melts wax placed in a hollow at its end; the order in which the wax melts ranks the metals by conductivity. It is used in school and college heat lessons.
Specifications
The apparatus has four metal strips, of copper, brass, steel and aluminium, mounted on a wooden ring and meeting at the centre, with a hollow at the end of each strip for wax. Strip dimensions are given on the quotation.

Applications of the thermal conductivity of metals apparatus
Timing the melting of wax gives students a simple, fair comparison of conductors. The apparatus is used for:
- Comparing the thermal conductivity of copper, brass, steel and aluminium
- Demonstrating heat transfer by conduction
- Discussing fair testing: equal heating and equal strip lengths
- Heat lessons in middle and secondary-school physics
Scope of supply and ordering
This listing covers the conductivity of metal apparatus, SKU JA-H-8004, with four strips on a wooden ring. Wax and a burner can be added to the quotation. Accessories, spares and quantities are confirmed on the quotation.
MOQ, lead time and packing are confirmed on each quotation for the quantity and delivery destination. Units are supplied singly or in class quantities for schools, colleges and tender orders.
Frequently asked questions
Which metals are compared?
Copper, brass, steel and aluminium.
How are the results read?
Heat applied at the centre melts wax in the hollow at the end of each strip; the time each cup of wax takes to melt shows the relative conductivity.
How is the apparatus heated?
Gently, at the centre where the strips meet, for example with a small burner.
