The Biots Conductor (SKU JA-PLE-4232) is the classic Biot's sphere apparatus for demonstrating that electric charge on a conductor resides only on its outer surface. A 5 cm diameter sphere on an insulated stand is charged, covered with two close-fitting hemispherical cups held by insulated handles, and the cups are then removed to show they carry the charge. This Biot's conductor for electrostatics is used in school and college physics demonstrations.

When the charged sphere is enclosed by the hemispherical cups and the cups are withdrawn by their insulated handles, an electroscope shows that the charge has moved to the cups and the sphere is left uncharged, proving that charge lives on the outer surface.
