The Ball and Ring (SKU JL-LE-10615, Cat. No. JSS-251/069) is a classic ball and ring apparatus for demonstrating the thermal expansion of solids. A brass ball is held captive to a brass ring by a chain, and the ring is mounted on a rod with a wooden handle. At room temperature the ball passes through the ring; once the ball is heated it expands and no longer fits, and it drops through again as it cools.
