Youngs Modulus
Product Code : JC-SL-5760
The Youngs Modulus apparatus (SKU JC-SL-5760) measures the stretch of a wire under load so that students can find the Young's modulus of its material. A scale plate carries a 0-20 cm scale and a movable vernier reading to 0.1 mm, and the two wires hang side by side from a wall attachment: one is kept taut as a reference while the other is loaded, so the vernier reads only the extension caused by the added masses.

Experiments with the apparatus
The apparatus is used for elasticity work in senior school and college physics:
- Determining the Young's modulus of a wire from load and extension readings
- Plotting extension against load and checking that the wire stays within its elastic limit
- Comparing wires of different materials when spare wires are supplied
Scope of supply and ordering
The apparatus comes with the approx. 1 kg tension weight and one pair of wires. Slotted loading masses, spare wires, quantities and packing are confirmed on the quotation.
Frequently asked questions
What is the least count of the vernier on the Youngs Modulus apparatus?
0.1 mm, on a 0-20 cm scale plate.
Are wires included?
Yes, one pair of wires and a tension weight of approximately 1 kg are included.
How is the vernier zeroed?
A thumb screw allows the vernier to be set to zero before loading.
