Wave length & velocity of sound system
Product Code : JL-LE-10501
The Wave length & velocity of sound system (SKU JL-LE-10501, Cat. No. JSS-141/026) is a Kundt tube apparatus for studying sound, standing waves and resonance. A mini speaker at one end of a transparent 850 mm tube sets up the sound wave, and a miniature microphone passed along the tube finds the nodes and antinodes, from which wavelength and velocity of sound follow. It also suits work on musical instruments and tones.

Experiments with the Kundt tube
The tube, piston and microphone allow work on:
- Standing waves and the positions of nodes and antinodes
- Measuring the wavelength and velocity of sound in air
- Resonance of air columns, with the side holes and piston changing the tube length
Scope of supply and ordering
The system is supplied with the tube, piston, microphone, speaker, driver and booklet; the amplifier or oscilloscope is separate, and the quotation confirms quantity, packing and lead time.
Frequently asked questions
How long is the resonance tube?
850 mm, transparent, with a metric scale.
How is the sound picked up inside the tube?
A miniature microphone is passed up the tube to detect the standing wave.
What else is needed to run it?
An amplifier or oscilloscope, which the driver connects to the speaker.
