The Tectonics Demonstrator Model (SKU JL-LEP-10311) simulates how rock layers deform when plates push together or pull apart. Layers of yellow and green sand, 1 kg of each, are spread in a rectangular container 10-13 inches long, 6-8 inches wide and 3-5 inches high and levelled with the flattening plate. Turning the long screw handles drives two L-shaped push plates, so the tectonics demonstrator forms folds, faults, compression features and rift valleys that students can see in cross-section.
