The Slotted Link (Scotch Yoke) (SKU JA-PLE-4194) is a working model of the standard mechanism for generating simple harmonic motion from a rotating wheel. A pin on the wheel drives a slider in the slot of a cross frame, and the link carrying the frame moves back and forth in exactly simple harmonic motion. This Scotch yoke mechanism model is one of a series of sixteen A3 board-mounted mechanisms for physics, theory of machines and engineering drawing teaching.
Specifications
A link sliding in two in-line guides carries a right-angled cross frame with a symmetrically disposed slot, and a wheel centred on the centre line of the guides carries a pin that turns in a slider running in that slot.
