The metal ray box (SKU JC-SL-4695) is a light source for school optics practicals. Its ventilated lamp house has an open front, extended sides finned on the outside to dissipate heat, and vertical grooves inside that take a slit plate and a cylindrical lens. A 12 V lamp in a holder is connected by one metre of twin flex with banana plugs. With filters and lenses it produces parallel and other rays and coloured effects.
