The Magnetizing and Demagnetizing Solenoid (SKU JA-PLE-4138) is a mains-operated coil for magnetising steel specimens and removing unwanted magnetism from them in the physics laboratory. Applications of the magnetizing and demagnetizing solenoid
A steel specimen placed inside the coil is magnetised by the field of the current switched on with the push switch, and a magnetised object can be demagnetised by withdrawing it slowly from the coil while alternating current flows; the compass is then used to check the result.
