Uses of blue litmus paper
Typical tests in school and college laboratories:
- Identifying acids such as dilute hydrochloric acid, vinegar or lemon juice, which turn the strip red
- Testing acidic gases: a moist strip held at the mouth of a test tube turns red with carbon dioxide or hydrogen chloride
