Lenzs Law Apparatus
Product Code : JC-SL-5788
The Lenzs Law Apparatus (SKU JC-SL-5788) demonstrates that an induced current always opposes the change that produces it. It consists of a 250 mm long solenoid wound with insulated copper wire and mounted on a base with a switch and 4 mm terminals, operating on 12 V AC or DC at a maximum current of 6 A, together with an unmagnetised soft steel rod of 150 x 10 mm.

Demonstrations with the apparatus
The apparatus supports the electromagnetic induction topics of senior school physics:
- Showing the opposition of induced currents described by Lenz's law when the supply is switched on or off
- Comparing the effect of AC and DC supplies on the solenoid
- Showing how the soft steel rod becomes magnetised inside the solenoid and loses its magnetism when the current stops
Scope of supply and ordering
The apparatus comes with the solenoid on its base and the soft steel rod. A 12 V AC/DC supply, leads, quantities and packing are confirmed on the quotation.
Frequently asked questions
What supply does the Lenzs Law Apparatus need?
12 V AC or DC, with a maximum current of 6 A.
How long is the solenoid?
250 mm, wound with insulated copper wire and fitted with a switch and 4 mm terminals.
What is the rod for?
The 150 x 10 mm soft steel rod is placed in the solenoid to show induced magnetism and strengthen the field.
