The Hand Microtome (SKU JL-LE-11431, Cat. No. JSS-523/051) cuts thin, even sections of plant stems, roots and other soft specimens for mounting on microscope slides. It can be held in the hand or fixed to a table, and each click of the feed raises the specimen by 10 microns, so students cut sections of a set thickness instead of judging it by eye. The body is colour-coated mild steel with a glass cutting plate, and a cutting razor and wooden storage case come with it. Cut sections are floated off the razor into water and picked up on a slide for staining.
