The Decimal Plate (SKU JA-NC-3596) is a 10 x 10 cm square plate printed with a grid, used with translucent plastic strips of 10 x 2 cm and 10 x 1 cm supplied in multiple quantities. Laying strips across the grid in two directions shows the product of two decimals as an overlapping area, so this decimal plate makes the multiplication of decimal numbers visible for upper primary and middle school pupils. Applications of the decimal plate
If the whole plate stands for 1, a 10 x 1 cm strip is one tenth, so pupils lay strips one way to show the first decimal and the other way to show the second, and the overlapping area gives the product, for example 0.3 x 0.4 = 0.12.
