Crank and Connecting Rod
Product Code : JA-PLE-4188
The Crank and Connecting Rod (SKU JA-PLE-4188) is a working model of the standard mechanism that converts rotary motion into reciprocating motion and back again, the arrangement used in engines, pumps and compressors. It is built on an A3 board so the whole class can see the links move. This crank and connecting rod mechanism model is one of a series of sixteen board-mounted mechanisms for engineering drawing, theory of machines and physics teaching.
Specifications
A connecting rod is attached at one end to a rotating arm and at the other to a combined slider and turning pair, with the amber Perspex links pivoted on hollow rivets on a white A3 melamine board.

Applications of the crank and connecting rod mechanism model
The model lets students turn the crank by hand and follow how the slider moves back and forth, so they can relate crank angle to slider position and see why the piston speed in an engine is not uniform.
- Demonstrating conversion of rotary motion to reciprocating motion and the reverse
- Plotting the loci of points on the connecting rod
- Relating crank angle to slider displacement over one revolution
- Explaining the slider-crank principle behind engines, pumps and compressors
- Theory of machines, engineering drawing and applied mechanics classes in polytechnics, TVET institutes and colleges
Scope of supply and ordering
The listing covers the crank and connecting rod mechanism on its A3 melamine board with an instruction manual. The stand, board clips and collet pencil are listed as a separate item. Accessories, spares and quantities are confirmed on the quotation.
Minimum order quantity, lead time and packing are confirmed on each quotation according to the number of models and the delivery destination. JaincoLab supplies individual models, full mechanism sets for technical training centres and export consignments to buyers in Africa, the Middle East and South and South-East Asia.
