What is the layer test?
In salt analysis, chlorine water frees bromine or iodine from the salt; shaken with chloroform, the lower layer turns orange-brown for bromide or violet for iodide.
Does chloroform mix with water?
No. It is denser than water and forms a separate lower layer.
