Apparatus for Demonstrating the Boil-Marriott Law
Product Code : JL-GLE-11254
The Apparatus for Demonstrating the Boil-Marriott Law, SKU JL-GLE-11254, is a JaincoLab Boyle's law demonstrator. It shows that, for a given mass of gas at constant temperature, pressure and volume are inversely proportional, so their product stays the same. Air is trapped in a transparent horizontal tube marked from 0 to 300 cm3 and closed by a gas tap; the pressure gauge beside the tap is read as the volume is changed. Moving the rubber stopper changes the effective length of the tube and so the volume of trapped air.

Investigating Boyle's law
Steps students follow:
- Set a starting volume of trapped air and note the pressure
- Move the rubber stopper to change the volume and read the new pressure
- Multiply pressure by volume for each reading and check that the product stays constant
- Plot pressure against 1/volume to get a straight line
Scope of supply and ordering
Supplied as the scaled tube with gas tap, pressure gauge and rubber stopper as described; quantities are confirmed on the quotation.
Frequently asked questions
Which gas law is shown?
Boyle's law, also called the Boyle-Mariotte law: PV is constant for a fixed mass of gas at constant temperature.
What is the volume range of the tube?
0-300 cm3.
How is the volume changed?
By moving the rubber stopper, which sets the effective length of the tube.
Where is the pressure gauge fitted?
Next to the gas tap that closes the tube.
